Peer Shout Outs

You guys had LOTS of shout outs this month and we love that! We’re so excited to share them!

Congratulations Corner

Please help us congratulate Shelly Martinez’s husband, Angel, for his 20 years of service in the Army!

Shelly wrote, “After 20 years of active-duty service in the United States Army, my husband, Angel Martinez, is officially retiring. Throughout his career, he has served with dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment—through numerous deployments, many duty stations, and the organized chaos of raising four children along the way. While the Army gave him orders, purpose, and probably a bad back, it also gave us a lifetime of memories and stories we’ll be retelling forever (some of which still require security clearance).

His journey has been one of sacrifice, leadership, and strength—not just for him, but for our entire family. We’ve moved often, adapted quickly, and grown stronger together with each chapter of Army life.

As he transitions into retirement, we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and deeply grateful for the experiences and community that have shaped our family over the past two decades.”

Congratulations, Angel! Thank you so much for your sacrifice and your service!

Howard Center in the Community

A special Thank You from Bekka Reese:

I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to each and every one of you who showed up, pitched in, and helped make this back-to-school season one for the books!

Whether you were taking time out of your day to help prepare these bags for distribution, standing in the scorching sun handing out bags at our drive thru giveaway, running in and out of the rain hauling boxes from vans into the Turner County High School gym, or giving up a few hours of your evening and your Saturday to help distribute supplies — trust me when I say, your hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed! I saw you and I appreciate each and every one of you!

This year marked our BIGGEST back-to-school supply effort to date with four drives, including our very first Howard Center-hosted event! We also had the incredible opportunity to partner with Peanut Butter and Jesus, a local non-profit, to fill lunch bags and distribute school supplies to underserved communities in and around Tifton.

I honestly can’t find the perfect words to express just how thankful I am for each of you. Your willingness to jump in and serve — no matter the weather, no matter the time — speaks volumes about the kind of team we have. Because of YOU, so many local children were able to start the school year feeling prepared, supported, and seen.

Thank you all SO much for everything! I couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Over 750 bags were put together by our incredible Howard Center staff! Even members of our WCAS team (not pictured: Jade Tomlinson) joined in to help make this happen!

She’s the calm in the chaos, fielding call after call from mothers who are in a vulnerable stage of life — overwhelmed, emotional, and in urgent need of support. Jessica Cowart
$250.00 and a trophy!

I want to take a moment to spotlight Jessica Cowart, a team member whose dedication, initiative, and heart make a difference every single day.

Recently this past month, I was able to take some much-needed time off, and like many of you know, stepping away from work—even briefly—can be stressful unless you have someone you completely trust to hold things down. Jessica was that person for me. JJ stepped up and took full responsibility for covering the Diet Center, making sure the office was fully stocked, organized, and running as if I had never left. Because of her, I was able to relax and recharge, knowing everything was in capable hands.

But it doesn’t stop there.

JJ consistently shows what it means to be a team player. On days when I can’t take a lunch break, she’ll gladly offer to pick up lunch for me—always with a smile and without hesitation. No matter what time of day it is or how busy she might be, she’s always willing to jump in and help wherever she’s needed. That kind of reliability and selflessness is rare, and it deserves to be celebrated.

Jessica, your positive attitude, your willingness to step up, and your commitment to making sure things get done do not go unnoticed. You are the kind of person every team needs, and today we want to thank you for being exactly who you are.

Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month—you’ve earned it in every way.
